What is IEEE?

IEEE is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE and its members inspire a global community through IEEE’s highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities. IEEE, pronounced “Eye-triple-E”, stands for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The association is chartered under this name and it is the full legal name.

What is the purpose of IEEE?

IEEE’s core purpose is to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE will be essential to the global technical community and to technical professionals everywhere, and be universally recognized for the contributions of technology and of technical professionals in improving global conditions. The IEEE is engaged in an enterprise-wide strategic planning process. The IEEE Strategic Plan is a vital part of the ongoing evolution of IEEE. The Plan provides a clear picture of IEEE as an organization, the goals our community is pursuing, and the initiatives that will move IEEE forward in the coming years. You can find the plan here.

How can I become a member of IEEE?

If you want to join IEEE and gain all that benefits the membership offers,such as the monthly IEEE Spectrum Magazine, you just have to visit www.ieee.org and create your own account! We have created a guideline, to make your registration easier. So, the only thing you have to do in order to enjoy the most rewarding IEEE experience is to follow the steps described in here.

What about other IEEE branches?

Each IEEE student branch belongs to a Section, and each Section belongs to a Region. Particularly, our branch belongs to Region 8 and specifically to the Greece (GR) Section.
